It is a criminal offence to fly-tip and Enforcement Officers regularly catch and fine fly-tippers. Officers can now issue on-the-spot Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) of up to £400. For serious offences fines can be up to £50,000 or 12 months imprisonment (or both) if convicted in a magistrates’ court. The council removes any fly-tipped waste, except from private land within 24 hours of it being reported.
Reporting a fly-tipIf you discover a fly-tip, visually inspect the site but do not touch it. Report it by using the Clean Islington app, online through My eAccount (select ‘Report an Environmental Problem’) or call 020 7527 2000.
If you spot someone fly-tipping, report it to Islington’s
anti-social behaviour team so they can catch them out. Provide as much detail as you can. You can also call the ASB line on 020 7527 7272.
